Dr. Joseph Mercola’s Fat For Fuel is a MUST read – even if you think you do not agree with the concept of eating fat (instead of copious carbohydrates). I have been eating the way that Dr. Joseph Mercola recommends for the past two years and had my Type 2 Diabetes healed (no more injecting insulin!), 40-year-old fatty liver return to normal, eyes healed and angina go. Plus I easily lost 18 kgs over a 10 month period. This way of eating (using what we eat to heal our bodies) is not just about losing weight but becoming WELL.

I am still reading the book. I decided to start my MMT/Keto diet immediately upon receipt of the book. As I need to lose a lot of weight, and have failed many,many, many times before, I wanted to jump right in and not stall. I have also been considering surgery, but really want to beat this beast without surgery.

Fifteen years ago a natural doctor healed my hair loss with minerals chelated to the Kreb Cycle of the mitochondria of the cell, thus beginning my love affair with this beautiful bacteria which live within our cells and control EVERYTHING. I can not even begin to tell you how amazing this book is in explaining what we all need to know about this tiny, little organelle.

Excellent book that I 100% endorse for anyone interested in improving their overall health and/or losing body fat. I am purchasing a few extra copies to give to friends in need of fine tuning their diets. I had been eating keto, but the prime shift that got my body to respond the best was incorporating the intermittent fasting aspect. Doing a 16 hour fast followed by an 8 hour feeding window has been truly amazing (last meal at 6pm, skip breakfast, first fast breaking meal at 10am). Sometimes I will go 18-20 hours with a 6-4 hour feeding window for an added boost. During this time I feel zero hunger and my energy levels have skyrocketed. Besides the physical benefits, I feel mentally sharper and have a general calmness that I had been lacking for years. I don’t get as frustrated as I used to with day to day activities, which I’m certain is helping immensely with cortisol output and just life in general. Another great book that compliments Mercola’s Fat for Fuel is The Complete Guide to Fasting by Dr. Jason Fung. I also recommend The Maker’s Diet by Jordan Ruben as a general dietary guide that can help a great deal with healthy food choices and ease one into a MMT/ketogenic lifestyle. I began with Phase 1 eating on Maker’s, stayed with it (which is basically ketogenic), then added in IMF and in about 4 1/2 months I have lost an amazing 52 lbs with no change in physical activity. When I first started I had borderline type 2 diabetes, high triglycerides, dangerously high blood pressure, and was pretty much a metabolic disaster. After 3 months eating this way my type 2 diabetes completely reversed, my triglycerides were normal, and my blood pressure was on the high end of normal. It felt strange to get a call from my doctor congratulating me on making such amazing improvements. In fact, I’m actually looking forward to my next blood work in 2 months to see what further improvements I’ve made. Now I’m fine tuning my diet even further with Mercola’s MMT guidelines to take my health to the next level. Eating this way really does work. Give it a try.

I’ve had chronic fatigue since my late 20s, and that has led to a sedentary lifestyle. I’ve tried Paleo and many low carb eating plans in the past. I’ve felt a little better and lost a bit of weight each time, but it was never sustained, and I’ve gained more weight since menopause. I’m now 50, and I knew that I had to find a better way to improve my energy and my health overall, since I could foresee my health declining even more overtime if a drastic change wasn’t made. Dr. Mercola’s website and e-mail newsletters have been beneficial, so I was waiting for this book to be available. I received it within days of its release, and I couldn’t put it down! It’s scientific, yet not so much that it can’t be understood by this information hungry lay person. I started implementing the eating plan immediately, ordered blood glucose testing kit and a ketosis breath meter. I’m still waiting for the ketone tester to arrive, but my blood sugar has already gone down, and I’ve lost a bit of weight. I’m thinking more clearly, and I’m spending less time sitting. I’m looking forward to meals, but I’m not grazing at all–a HUGE improvement for me! I suggest that you don’t just go to the “plan” without reading the whole book. I believe that success will be more attainable when you know the whys behind the method. (On a related note, the cronometer.com logging system is amazing! I’m so glad Dr. Mercola suggests it!)

Clearly written. Well researched. Interesting personal examples. The plan with its extensive use of blood testing, food logging and supplements almost requires an obsessive compulsive attitude. I am incorporating many of the recommendations but cannot afford the expensive whole foods, lab tests or time commitment. I found it well worth reading. Will also be rereading many sections.

This will be a classic!

Joseph Mercola is the one of the most visible and well-known of the holistic doctors out there. In this book, he outlines a diet that is mostly fat, and is very careful to distinguish between good and bad fats. Unlike other authors, he emphasizes the need to limit protein, because that can convert to glucose and derail the passage to ketosis, which is what we are looking for here. This diet is excellent for relatively painless weight loss and maintaining a good energy level. I’ve tried something close to it, and I am never hungry. But he also recommends it for cancer patients, even though this diet doesn’t really work that well on its own for that purpose unless you modify it by adding huge amounts of vegetables. My other complaint is that he often makes statements in different parts of the book that contradict each other. One example is that at one point he recommended that weight trainers should figure out a way to gain muscle on just one gram per kilogram of protein, and in another place he said that doubling or tripling that might be okay for weight training. As a result I am not sure what he really thinks on this important issue. The other issue is that people may have trouble remembering to measure their blood sugar 2-3 times a day. I measure it from time to time, but it’s hard to do it that often. You also have to frequently measure your degree of ketosis to really do this right. It’s not really for everyone, and he more or less says that at the beginning. But I like this book overall, and I think it is a good contribution to the layman health literature. I recommend it.

The book is technical and I imagine controversial to some (including my doctor), but I’m willing to try at least some of the protocol. I see the need for the recommended gear, measuring, weighing, and record-keeping, but I’m not sure I will be as precise and non-spontaneous as Dr. Mercola thinks I should be.

I got so much out of this book, thank you!!!! I’ve been working for a while to get into ketosis. After an accident in May I was forced to slow down to heal. I’m still healing but utilizing the opportunity to stay focused on my nutrition because I can’t workout or run. My physical activity level was a huge barrier for switching over to burning fat. This book helped guide me right into ketosis. I can’t explain how empowered I felt when I tested my levels and got the highest readings!!! Thank you Dr Marcola
