Great machine for the price. I too had the problem with my shoes slipping out of the foot straps. The back rim isn’t tall enough. However, for about $1 you can mod the peddles for a quick fix. I cut a 4″ PVC end cap in half and bolted them to the peddles as shown in the attached photo. Works great and fits my big shoes.

Excellent Purchase. Highly recommend it.

I wanted to buy a rower because I had used one years ago at the gym and liked the way it worked. All the other machines either were too highly priced, or the reviews were not too convincing. The price on this one was very good and the reviews were good. So I gave it a try.

Good machine WHEN it works.

The good: this rower replicates an actual rowing experience pretty well, which I like because I rowed in my college days. It has a minimal foot print and works well even after 10 years (I didn’t row for some of those years).

This is what I expected for the price. I’m pleased.

This was really easy to assemble because I gave it to my husband and told him he couldn’t come upstairs until it was put together. I feel it took him all of 20-30 minutes to put together, so I didn’t have to feel too bad about taking up his time.

Decent rower for a decent price

I ordered this rowing machine because I wanted a unit that wasn’t wildly expensive and could be folded or stood upright to conserve space in our small apartment. It arrived promptly, and my husband was able to assemble it quickly, so we tried it out last night.

Well packaged, easily assembled. My main concern was the review stating that the foot stirrups were up standard but it looks like the machine I received has had a slight change of design on the part. easily adjustable velcro and a lip on the heel makes them adjustable and stable. Heavy frame. Sturdily built. Zero problem to put it away to store. I was under the impression that the seat was hard molded plastic whereas it’s actually a heavy high density closed cell cushion. Comfortable. I’ll probably snag a gel pad eventually but for now it’s quite usable. Pleased with purchase thus far.

A great value. Hard to beat for the money.

Overall, I really like the rower. Years ago, I had a Precor rower that was much more expensive and really was more limited than the Stamina rower. But, like many reviewers here at Amazon, I also had an issue with my feet falling off the pedals. I liked the solution of one reviewer, Johnny-X, who drilled holes in the pedals at the base and put a U-bolt through to keep your heels from slipping off. But, I also wanted to be able to use the rower in my stocking feet, so the U-bolt was not an option. As I was at Lowe’s looking for a sturdy, but flexible material to attach to the pedals, I found some Vinyl siding samples in the lumber section. I grabbed a few and saw that they’d fit the pedals well. I attached them with rivets, but you could use small screws and nuts. The photos are in the gallery. My only other modification was to remove the cheesy graphics which really made the unit look better, in my opinion. Overall, I’d strongly recommend this rower.

Great deal if you get creative with keeping your feet in place

After looking at some very expensive models, I decided that I couldn’t pass up the great deal on this rowing machine. I’m not a competitive athlete, just trying to get in better shape. It arrived in about a week in good condition. Make sure to look through all of your packaging, because at first I didn’t find the tools that were included to put it together. It wasn’t difficult to assemble and took about 20 minutes. The rowing action takes a little time to adjust to, especially if you have used the more high end rowers, but I got it in about 15 minutes. In the beginning my feet did start to slip out at the heel, as other people have noted. I just slipped some tennis wrist sweat bands around my ankles before placing my feet in the footstraps. Once set in place, I slip the sweat bands under the heel part of the foot pad (so that they go over the top part of my foot near the ankle joint and under the pad.) I just finished 30 minutes without one slip. If you wear big shoes, the wrist band may not stretch enough to go around your shoe. But any stretchy loop could do the same thing—just find something bigger. Maybe something like a headband would work. Have fun, it’s a better overall workout than my exercise bike and I think I’ll be using them on alternating days. Great if you like to watch TV and don’t want to be a couch potato! It is not bulky and tips up easily to lean against a wall when not in use. And it’s quiet too.
