Great intro book for people getting serious about essential oils

I first downloaded this book as the Free Kindle Edition…you know…just to check it out, since I’d been buying all these books on aromatherapy that haven’t *really* seemed to be what I was looking for…free, why not? I only had to read five pages, then scrambled to buy the print edition. I knew this was something I wanted in my print library. When I received the book, I was certainly right. Besides being a “page-turner” (which is interesting for a ‘textbook’, this one is seriously entertaining, like having a friend over who happens to be an herbalist), Ashley really touches on certain aspects of using essential oils that information on the internet and that other books in this price bracket don’t. Paramount among these things is SAFETY. There are ‘recipes’ and ‘use methods’ floating all over the ‘net that, now looking back, must have been shared with very little thought as to what was being mixed [for instance, a known web diffuser recipe that calls for SEVEN drops of melissa, huh?]. Ashley makes it CLEAR which essential oils are ‘safe’ and which you need to be cautious with, and the reasons why (and also how to make the ‘unsafe’ safe). The profiles for each oil are concise and completely no-nonsense; the ‘history lessons’ gloriously entertaining and enlightening.
One of the best, YOU MUST READ.

I really enjoyed this book and I was so glad to see she shared information in it that others neglect. I felt confident she knows her profession and didn’t throw a lot of useless or dangerous recipes out there. I’ve read several books by other experts, and really questioned their advise in their books, but I felt totally comfortable with the advise given in this book. Kindle friendly, easy navigation, and easy to understand. I loved the history of essential oils chapter, it didn’t bore me to tears. I downloaded all her other books and I can’t wait to get to them. Seriously if I could afford to get certified, I would right now, but money is tight right now. Being the only survivor of cancer in my family makes natural health prevention a must for me, and herbal and plant medicines just may have saved my life during chemo, so I know the power of plants for healing! If more people read this book for free, there would be less harmful information on essential oils posted on the internet, soap and bath makers like myself would be more careful in the amounts and types of essential oils used in bath products, and ordinary persons would treat themselves to natural remedies instead of commercial products. Case in point: I’ve used lavender essential oil neat on a third degree burn on the tip of my finger, and in three days the wound healed with little pain and no scar!!! Incredible, no commercial product could do that! I use lavender on my pillow at night to help me stay asleep, my prescribed sleeping aid can’t do that,so my doctor was thrilled to stop prescribing them to me :).
Pretty good, loved the safety

I really enjoyed this book. My only issue with it was that it left out usage. So it would give you oils to use for a specific problem but not tell you where to apply, which method you should use, or how much oil. I am familiar with oil usage myself so I can take this information and count it as useful but I worry about the oil novice. I particularly loved the blends section of the book. It was interesting and helpful. I also appreciated the safety represented in this book. So often I read aromatherapy books with insanely unsafe advice such as harmful oils used on children or those that promote ingestion. I deeply appreciated that this author only showed the latest safety advice. Overall this is a very good read and I would definitely recommend it to a friend or fellow oil user.
An excellent introduction to aromatherapy, essential oils and their uses; but short on detailed scientific evidence

I purchased the Kindle edition at $0. I think anyone interested in aromatherapy will enjoy this book and gain a better understanding of essential oils and aromatherapy, in general. Among the interesting things it teaches is how essential oils are produced and how you can apply them. It has nice summaries of the uses and purported effects of each of the popular essential oils (like lavender, frankincense, and rose), as well as many less common oils. It also examines them by the conditions they treat and has sections contributed by additional aromatherapy experts. These provide added depth to the material. Another useful section details the components of essential oils such as terpenes.
I love learning about natural remedies/EO’s/supplements and all

A fun read, just not really a "Complete Guide"
The author has a very affable way of writing which makes this fun to read, but I’m surprised that she decided on this title for her book. I liked her introduction to the history and science of essential oils and she does give us good general profiles of a large number of essential oils, but there’s not a lot of guidance as to how to use each of the oils, just an overview of the basic methods. Still, the book is fine as a starting point to help figure out what oils to consider for different conditions, and there’s a section at the end where some of her aromatherapist friends each contribute a recipe which they’ve found particularly helpful along with thoughts on their personal approach, which is bound to have something of interest for everyone. Overall it’s worth the free download definitely. 🙂
THIS IS MY 22nd ESSENTIAL OILS BOOK AND I FEEL IT HAD THE MOST INFORMATION OF ALL OF THEM.
First of all I want to thank Elizabeth for writing such an informative book and for letting us download it free. You see I had an injury at work and have been in chronic pain for 20 years now and so I have been trying to learn all I can on Essential Oils for I want to get off of medication and I heard Oils can be used for so many things. I only have a few oils being I am disabled and must be careful with money but I can’t wait to start trying blends. The complete listing of all the oils and what they can do will help me so much in finding a blend that I hope will help me. PLUS after I get oils I want to buy Elizabeth. .’s next Essential Oil book or about the way we live our life can help us understand reasons we can become ill. Thanks again
Great resource for this beginner

Great resource for this beginner! Thankfully I hadn’t yet dipped into the use of Essential Oils too much before reading this book. Lots of information, about safety, what holistic means, and the philosophy of good essential oil usage. Includes the technical information about carrier oils, good oils to start your collection, how to blend and how to apply. Many pages of which oils to use for what ails you. I intend to continue on with the rest of her series of books. The manner in which she writes allows the reader to easily identify which oils may be most helpful for the care of yourself and your loved ones. Makes it very easy to build my collection for purpose! Thank you Elizabeth for your writings. An additional note for readers – I found it necessary to use the links in the Kindle version of the book to get to the internet website and the resource information mentioned rather than writing the link down and then entering the link into my web browser.
This is an amazing book. Elizabeth has done a lot of research with essential oils. You will find scientific data, history/background of the plants. I truly liked the chart you can obtain which shows base notes, top and middle notes. There is a description of each essential oil so you will know what their healing powers are. They also list the oils that diabetics and epilepsy should avoid. She offers free downloads on some of the major essential oils. This is an amazing book if you are trying to find out everything you need concerning essential oils. Highly recommend!

I loved all the vast array of information in this book. It was great for the beginner like me to get my basic information down questions answered, and starting point to branch off from. There are so many areas to dig deeper into. Plus I loved all the added bonus diy suggestions. Then all the added links are a wonderful opportunity too, which I have not visited all of them yet. So I would say this book is a absolute must read for every newbie to the essential oil and aromatherapy world. So much to learn, set back relax and take it all in I say!! Thanks for the great work and collaboration Elizabeth Ashley, you kept me intrigued the whole way through, and thirsty for more of your work. Now it’s on to the next one.
